100 dogs in ‘unlivable conditions’ rescued from Georgetown home; 2 arrested

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — Two homeowners were arrested after investigators rescued more than 100 dogs from a Georgetown residence, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO).

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control officers responded to a home on Duck Pond Place in the Wedgefield area.

Investigators reportedly found more than 100 dogs in unlivable conditions inside every room of the house. Officials said they used equipment to air out the residence so that rescuers could safely operate.

Ralph Moody and Kimberly Moody were taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center and are awaiting a bond hearing.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) Dogfighting Unit, ASPCA, and St. Frances Animal Center are all assisting with prosecuting the case and caring for and rehousing the dogs.

GCSO said that more information, including the time of the bond hearing, will be shared as the case develops.
