Abandoned at a Gas Station, This Dog Found a Home—and a Job

What began as an act of abandonment turned into an unexpected story of kindness and second chances in Brazil.
In the city of Mogi das Cruzes, a stray dog later named Negão was left behind at a gas station that was still under construction. With no shelter and no owner in sight, he wandered the site alone—until the day the property was purchased by Sabrina Plannerer and her partner. Instead of ignoring the dog’s presence, the couple made a simple but life-changing decision: Negão was staying.
They immediately took him to a veterinarian, ensuring he received vaccinations and treatment for common health issues. A dog house was set up on the premises, and Negão quickly became part of their daily routine, enjoying regular walks and constant companionship. What was meant to be temporary care soon became permanent.
When the Shell fuel station officially opened for business, something unexpected happened. Negão proved to be naturally friendly and calm, greeting customers with wagging enthusiasm and quickly becoming a familiar, comforting presence. Seeing how much joy he brought to visitors, the owners decided to make his role official.
Negão was given his own employee identity badge and a uniform cap, symbolically welcoming him as the station’s “greeter.” The gesture delighted customers, many of whom now stop by specifically to see him—often bringing toys, snacks, and affection along with their fuel purchases.
His popularity grew beyond the station itself. Local animal welfare advocates praised the initiative, and Negão was even recognized as “employee of the month” by a nearby organization, celebrating both his charm and the compassion shown by the station’s owners.
Today, Negão is no longer a forgotten stray. He has a home, a purpose, and a community that looks out for him. His story is a reminder that small acts of kindness—especially toward animals with no voice—can transform lives in ways no one expects.
Sometimes, all it takes is one compassionate decision to turn abandonment into belonging.
