Some Labour Figures Call for Starmer to Resign Amid Party Pressure

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is facing calls to resign from a small number of Labour figures following controversy surrounding the appointment of Lord Peter Mandelson.

The pressure intensified after renewed scrutiny of Mandelson’s past associations prompted criticism of Starmer’s judgment. Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has publicly called on Starmer to step down, arguing that the issue has damaged the party’s credibility.

However, most Labour MPs have not called for Starmer’s resignation. Senior ministers and the majority of the Parliamentary Labour Party continue to support him.

Addressing Labour MPs, Starmer said he would remain in office and rejected calls to resign, insisting that he still has a mandate to lead the government.
