Second Ransom Letter Reported in Search for Savannah Guthrie’s Missing Mother

Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of NBC “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, say investigators have received a second purported ransom letter as the search enters its second week.

The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department in Arizona are continuing to treat the case as a possible kidnapping, though officials have not confirmed that either of the alleged ransom letters is genuine or that contact with an abductor is established. Law enforcement has not identified any suspects, persons of interest or verified communication with alleged kidnappers.

The first ransom demand—which reportedly included monetary conditions and set a payment deadline—was received by media outlets earlier in the investigation. That deadline has now passed without any payment or confirmed contact with the purported captors. A second deadline was apparently set and tied to the latest message, but authorities continue to treat the notes with caution as they verify authenticity and pursue all leads.

Savannah Guthrie has made multiple emotional appeals in video messages released on social media, urging the public for help and expressing that her family is “at an hour of desperation” as their mother remains missing. Investigators have appealed to anyone with information to come forward, and the FBI has offered a reward for tips leading to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return or an arrest in connection with her disappearance.
