BEYOND THE CALL: Fort Bend County Mourns Deputy Kenneth Lewis After Fatal Hit-and-Run

A community is in mourning after Deputy Kenneth Lewis, a veteran of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, was killed while performing a final act of service: helping a stranger in need.

A Heroic Final Act
Over the weekend, Deputy Lewis was patrolling near Houston when he noticed a stranded motorist on the side of the road. True to his character and the values of his badge, Lewis pulled over to assist. It was during this selfless moment that he was struck by another vehicle in a devastating hit-and-run incident.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, Deputy Lewis succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle that struck him fled the scene, sparking an intensive manhunt across the Houston area.

“The Very Best of Us”
In an emotional statement, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office honored their fallen brother, highlighting that Lewis didn’t die in a high-speed chase or a shootout, but while simply trying to make someone’s day a little safer.

“Deputy Lewis demonstrated the very best of law enforcement,” the Sheriff’s Office wrote. “His selflessness, dedication, and commitment to serving others reflect the core values of our office and the profession he proudly served.”
A Legacy of Service
Deputy Lewis was well-known among his colleagues for his steady hand and kind heart. His death serves as a grim reminder of the dangers faced by “Roadside Heroes”—the officers and first responders who stand on the thin line between traffic and tragedy every day.

The law enforcement community across Texas has lowered flags to half-staff in his honor. “We lost more than a deputy; we lost a man who believed that no task was too small if it helped a citizen,” said a fellow officer.
