THE TRASH CAN CAPER: Ohio Suspect Nicknamed “Oscar the Grouch” Caught Hiding in Bin
HUBER HEIGHTS, OHIO — A routine traffic stop turned into a high-stakes game of hide-and-seek this week, ending with a suspect discovered inside a trash can by an unsuspecting sanitation worker.
The “Garbage” Getaway
The incident began on Monday, February 23, 2026, when a Huber Heights police officer attempted to pull over a vehicle. The driver, identified as Jonathan McMillan, 27, decided to take his chances on foot, bolting from the car and disappearing into a nearby residential area.
While officers set up a perimeter, McMillan found what he thought was the perfect camouflage: a large rolling trash bin.
A Surprise for the Sanitation Crew
The plan literally went into the disposal when a local sanitation worker arrived for his morning route. Dashcam footage from the police cruiser shows the worker rolling the bin toward the truck and lifting the lid—only to jump back in shock as a human being popped out like a jack-in-the-box.
McMillan exploded out of the bin and attempted one last sprint, but he didn’t get far. Officer Perez, credited by the department for his “impressive athletic ability,” chased the suspect down through an apartment complex and successfully made the arrest.
“As luck would have it, ‘Oscar the Grouch’ — as we’ve nicknamed our suspect — appeared at just the right place and the right time,” the Huber Heights Police Department joked in a social media post.
Charges Filed
McMillan was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on charges of obstructing official business and resisting arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant from neighboring Miami County. In a twist of irony, police reportedly gave him a simple warning for the initial traffic violation that started the whole ordeal.
