In 2022, a team of experts used advanced 3D scanning and digital reconstruction software to recreate an 11-meter-tall statue of Constantine the Great from only a limited number of surviving marble fragments. 💻✨
The original statue, once displayed in the Basilica of Maxentius in Rome, had survived only in scattered pieces — including parts of the head, hands, and feet.
By carefully scanning each fragment and digitally assembling them, researchers were able to reconstruct the full monumental form with remarkable accuracy.
The completed reconstruction was presented at the Capitoline Museums, where the original fragments have long been preserved. 📍
❗ This project symbolically restored one of ancient Rome’s most powerful imperial images, allowing the colossal statue to “return” to the Eternal City in modern form.
