THE FLINTSTONES 2

The original Flintstones live-action film from the 90s was a weird, expensive mess. So naturally, Hollywood decided to try again with The Flintstones 2: Bedrock Boogaloo, starring Adam Sandler as Fred and Scarlett Johansson as Wilma. The result is exactly what you expect: chaotic, loud, and confused about its audience.
The plot (such as it is) follows Fred getting a new job promoting a “modern” invention—the wheel—while Wilma starts a business selling dinosaur milk smoothies. Meanwhile, Barney and Betty (played by two comedians trying their best) get caught up in a scheme involving a shady businessman from the neighboring town of Shale. Hilarity is meant to ensue.

Adam Sandler does his Adam Sandler thing: loud voice, silly walk, occasional anger. Scarlett Johansson looks fantastic in a stone-age pantsuit but seems unsure why she’s there. The jokes range from mildly clever puns to “haha, they use dinosaurs as appliances” gags that were tired in 1994. The CGI animals are creepy, and the live-action sets feel like a theme park ride you can’t get off.
The Verdict: Kids might giggle. Adults will weep for what animation used to be.
Final Thought: Yabba-Dabba-Don’t.
