San Andreas 2: Aftershock

Rating: 3.5/5 Shaky Ground
The original San Andreas (2015) was a disaster movie in the classic sense—big, dumb, and spectacular. San Andreas 2: Aftershock doubles down on the destruction while trying to add a little more heart to the rubble.
The film picks up years after the massive earthquake that leveled the West Coast. Ray (Dwayne Johnson) and his family have rebuilt their lives, with Ray now working as a disaster preparedness consultant. But when a new seismic threat emerges—a series of “cascading events” that could trigger the “Big One” along the entire San Andreas fault—Ray must race against time to save his family and warn the coast.

Johnson brings his usual charm and physicality, but the real highlight is the disaster sequences. A tsunami hitting San Francisco is visually stunning, and a sequence involving a collapsing dam is genuinely tense. The family drama is predictable but heartfelt, and the film delivers exactly what you expect: The Rock saving people from falling things.
The Verdict: A solid, entertaining disaster sequel. It’s not high art, but it’s high destruction, and sometimes that’s enough.
