After years of fan campaigns, Into the Badlands returns for a fourth season that finally answers the questions left hanging by the show’s premature cancellation.

Season 4 picks up after the cliffhanger of Season 3. Sunny (Daniel Wu) and Bajie (Nick Frost) continue their journey to the mythical city of Azra, believed to hold the secrets to ending the war between the Baronies. Meanwhile, the Widow (Emily Beecham) and Pilgrim (Babou Ceesay) prepare for a final confrontation that will decide the fate of the Badlands.

Wu is as magnetic as ever, delivering martial arts sequences that rival anything on television. Beecham brings fire and complexity to the Widow. The action is breathtaking, with a sequence involving a sword fight on moving trains that is pure cinema. The season finally answers the mysteries of Azra and gives each character a satisfying conclusion.

The Verdict: A triumphant return for one of television’s most underrated series. The Badlands get the ending they deserve.
