MAPLE GROVE, Wisconsin — Authorities and animal welfare organizations are offering a $2,500 reward for information that could help identify the person responsible for the horrific shooting of a dog in Shawano County earlier this month.

The dog, now affectionately named Sunny, was discovered on July 15 and rushed to Specialized Veterinary Care of Shawano after suffering devastating injuries. According to investigators, Sunny had been shot eight times and also suffered a broken leg, leaving the animal in critical condition.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office believes the injuries were inflicted between two and four days before Sunny was found.

Reward Announced to Encourage New Leads

On Thursday, the Center for a Humane Economy and the Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project announced a $2,500 reward. The reward will be paid for information that directly leads to the arrest, prosecution, and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for the abuse.

Officials hope the financial incentive will encourage anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.

Investigators Continue Searching for Answers

The sheriff’s office says the investigation remains active and is urging the public not to dismiss any detail, no matter how insignificant it may appear.

At this stage of the investigation, authorities have not identified any suspects or witnesses.

Investigators also discovered that Sunny’s microchip was registered to an individual living outside the state of Wisconsin. Deputies are working alongside the Shawano County Humane Society to trace the dog’s history, including contacting previous owners and any shelters that may have cared for Sunny in the past.

Sunny’s Recovery Continues

Despite the severe injuries, Sunny is now being cared for by the Shawano County Humane Society, where staff members are focused on helping the resilient dog recover.

There is already encouraging news for Sunny’s future. Shelter officials have confirmed that a permanent adoptive home has been arranged, and once veterinarians determine that Sunny has fully recovered and is medically cleared, the dog will be able to begin a new chapter with a loving family.

Authorities continue to ask anyone with information to come forward, hoping that public assistance will help bring those responsible to justice while ensuring Sunny’s story ends with the safe and caring home every animal deserves.
