The Cat In The Hat 202

#J4F No Live Action
The 2026 film is entirely animated, not live-action. Warner Bros. Pictures Animation will release an animated remake of “The Cat in the Hat” on November 6, 2026.
The voice cast includes:
Bill Hader as The Cat in the Hat
Quinta Brunson, Matt Berry, Bowen Yang, Xochitl Gomez, Giancarlo Esposito, and America Ferrera

Why no live-action?
There’s a very specific reason for this: Dr. Seuss’s widow, Audrey Geisel, banned live-action adaptations after Mike Myers’ 2003 version.
Audrey Geisel was so horrified by the 2003 live-action film “The Cat in the Hat” (which she felt rendered the beloved character vulgar and unrecognizable) that she declared she would never allow another live-action adaptation of Dr. Seuss.
“I’ve never seen Austin Powers, but I know the line ‘Yeah, baby!’ and I absolutely don’t want that ‘Yeah, baby!’ line,” she said of Myers’ performance. Following that film’s critical failure, she declared that her late husband’s works would only be adapted into animated films in the future.
Since her death in 2018, Dr. Seuss Enterprises has kept this commitment. All subsequent adaptations—including the upcoming The Cat in the Hat and Oh, The Places You’ll Go! in 2028—have been produced as feature-length animated films.
