3 Teens Charged in Connection to Drive-by Acid Attack That Left 6 Women Injured

New Jersey officials have made additional arrests in an alleged sulfuric acid attack that left six people injured last month.
Three teenagers — aged 13, 14 and 15 years old — have been detained in connection to the incident, a spokesperson for the Jersey City Department of Public Safety (JCDPS) told NBC News.
The teens have been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, causing bodily injury and additional crimes, the outlet reported. The attack left six women injured, per the outlet.

The arrests stem from an incident that PEOPLE previously reported occurred on June 15 when a group that included three female teenagers and three women were splashed with sulfuric acid by suspects who had allegedly driven by them on a moped.
“All six victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries that included skin burns and peeling,” JCDPS spokesperson Kim Wallace Scalcione told NBC News.
Wallace added to the outlet that one of the women, identified as a 21-year-old, had “to be treated for second-degree burns to her face and scalp.” NJ.com reported at the time that all of the victims were in stable condition following the incident.
Officials initially said that they believed the alleged attack stemmed from an earlier dispute involving a larger group and is considered targeted, local outlets reported citing police. Police initially shared that one juvenile was arrested in connection with the attack. JCDPS did not say how the other two teenagers were also found to have been connected to the incident.
One bystander, Amelia Sanchez, told ABC 7, “I heard fighting, and then after a couple of minutes of fighting, I heard one of the girls screaming, saying, ‘It burns! It burns!’ ”
Another neighbor told Fox5 NY that they witnessed one of the victims receiving medical care from first responders after they pulled up on the scene.
“I saw the girls come out of the house; they had towels on their face and stuff like that, and they went immediately into the ambulance,” the neighbor said. “How do you get ahold of acid to even throw it on someone like that? That’s what’s baffling me.”
