Honoring Master Firefighter Preston Lee Fant: A Life of Courage and Service
Master Firefighter Preston Lee Fant, age 53, will be laid to rest after more than two decades of dedicated service with DeKalb County Fire Rescue.
On September 8, 2025, while battling a warehouse fire, Preston made the ultimate sacrifice. In the line of duty, he attempted to save a fellow firefighter who had become trapped inside the burning structure. Though his team fought desperately to reach him and rushed him to the hospital, Preston did not survive his injuries.
For 21 years, he served his community with unwavering commitment, courage, and compassion. Known among his colleagues for his quiet strength and deep humility, Preston embodied the very essence of what it means to be a firefighter β selfless, brave, and driven by service to others.
Beyond his uniform, Preston was a devoted husband and the proud father of five. To his family, he was not only a hero but a constant source of love, laughter, and guidance. To his friends and fellow firefighters, he was a mentor β someone who led by example and put others before himself.
His passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his legacy of courage and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Today, we honor Master Firefighter Preston Lee Fant β a man who gave his life so others might live.
