Investigators have also examined GPS data from the boat used during the trip.

According to records obtained by CBS News, the vessel departed the Mississippi mainland shortly before 10 a.m. on July 4 and arrived at Horn Island around 11:14 a.m. The GPS information has become one of several pieces of evidence being analyzed as authorities establish a detailed timeline of the group’s movements before Wells disappeared.

Public Attention and Online Speculation

The case has generated widespread national attention and intense discussion across social media.

Authorities have repeatedly urged the public not to rely on unverified online videos, rumors, or speculation. Investigators say every claim is being reviewed, but they caution that many circulating theories have not been substantiated by evidence.

At the same time, Wells’ family has continued calling for transparency, while friends who accompanied him to Horn Island have denied wrongdoing and said they have cooperated fully with investigators. No one has been charged in connection with Wells’ death.

District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath has asked the public to allow investigators time to complete their work, stressing that protecting the integrity of the investigation is essential before any conclusions are reached.

For now, authorities have not ruled the death a homicide, accident, or any other manner of death. Officials say they will continue reviewing forensic evidence, witness interviews, digital records, and autopsy findings before announcing their final conclusions.
