Kimberly Williams-Paisley Feels Diane Keaton’s Presence After Buying Her Iconic Hat and Gloves

LOS ANGELES — Kimberly Williams-Paisley is keeping the memory of her late Father of the Bride co-star Diane Keaton close in a deeply personal way — by wearing some of the actress’s most recognizable accessories.

Williams-Paisley recently purchased one of Keaton’s signature hats and a pair of gloves at an estate auction. She later shared photos of herself wearing the pieces, saying the experience gave her the feeling that Keaton’s presence was still nearby.

The actress said that while she and friends were unpacking the items and preparing to photograph them, an unexpected visitor appeared: a large bald eagle landed in a nearby tree before flying away.

For Williams-Paisley, the unusual moment felt significant.

She wrote on Instagram that it “definitely felt like Diane’s energy was around us,” describing the eagle’s appearance as an extraordinarily rare occurrence.

A Hat With a Message

The black hat carries a particularly meaningful detail. It features the words “NO MORE WAR” along with a skull-and-crossbones design — a message associated with Keaton’s distinctive personal style and views. Williams-Paisley said she wanted to continue sharing that message while honoring her friend.

The actress paired the hat and sheer gloves with a black-and-white outfit, creating a look reminiscent of Keaton’s famously recognizable fashion.

Keaton was known for making hats, gloves, menswear-inspired clothing and unconventional combinations part of her signature image. Her style became almost as recognizable as her film career.

Their Bond Began on Father of the Bride

Williams-Paisley and Keaton first worked together on the 1991 comedy Father of the Bride, in which Williams-Paisley played Annie Banks, the daughter of Keaton’s character, Nina Banks.

They reunited for Father of the Bride Part II in 1995, and their professional relationship developed into a genuine friendship. Williams-Paisley has previously described Keaton as generous, funny and wise, recalling how much she admired her long before they worked together.

Williams-Paisley has also spoken about the emotional support Keaton gave her early in her career. She was only 19 when the first Father of the Bride was filmed and has said she experienced anxiety during those years.

Keaton became someone she could trust and talk to, even helping her work through troubling dreams and worries.

“She was just kind,” Williams-Paisley has recalled, describing Keaton as a safe, almost maternal presence in her life.

Remembering a Hollywood Icon

Keaton died on October 11, 2025, at age 79, after suffering bacterial pneumonia. Her death prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, friends and generations of actors who had been influenced by her work and distinctive personality.

For Williams-Paisley, however, the loss is also deeply personal. The hat and gloves are more than pieces of a Hollywood wardrobe — they are tangible reminders of someone who played an important role in her life.

By wearing Keaton’s signature accessories and sharing the unexpected bald-eagle encounter with her followers, Williams-Paisley is finding her own way to keep her former screen mother and longtime friend close.

And in a fitting tribute to Keaton’s unmistakable style, one of her most memorable hats is now being worn by the actress who once played her daughter.
