Kentucky Teacher, First Arrest Under New Grooming Law, Is Married Mom Who Welcomed Baby Last Year

The Kentucky middle school teacher who became the first person arrested under the state’s new anti-grooming law is a married mother who welcomed her first child just last year.

Sadie Flores, 25, a teacher at Graves County Middle School, was arrested Friday and charged with grooming a minor following a complaint made by the alleged victim’s parents.

Flores has been married to her husband, David, a machine operator, for four years.

The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter, last year.

In July 2024, Flores announced her pregnancy on Facebook, celebrating the arrival of what she described as a new chapter for the family.

“We are so grateful God chose us to be parents to this sweet baby,” she wrote at the time.

“Our greatest adventure is about to begin!”

Flores later shared photographs of her young daughter, including images taken in front of church signs, before her arrest at the school where she worked.

According to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, investigators began looking into Flores after the alleged victim’s parents reported concerns about communications between their child and the teacher.

Authorities allege Flores “attempted to manipulate the minor and expressed feelings of love and admiration more so than just a student-teacher relationship.”

Police have not publicly disclosed the alleged victim’s age.

However, reports citing school officials say a parent of a 14-year-old contacted the school board after allegedly discovering text messages between Flores and the child.

Investigators reportedly determined that some of the messages did not appear to have a legitimate purpose and were not related to school activities.

Authorities also allege that Flores and the student met secretly outside school before a school function.

According to investigators, Flores was not directly involved in that event.

Police further allege that the teacher and student participated in late-night FaceTime calls that the child’s parents did not know about.

It remains unclear how long the alleged communications had been taking place before Flores was arrested.

The case is drawing particular attention because Flores is the first person to be charged under Kentucky’s newly enacted grooming law.

The legislation took effect July 15.

The new law allows authorities to intervene and bring charges when they believe an adult is grooming a minor, rather than requiring prosecutors to wait until an alleged sexual assault has occurred.

Flores now faces a criminal charge under the new statute as investigators continue examining the allegations.

The allegations have not been proven in court, and Flores is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
