BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) — A Jamestown man died after his pickup truck struck a fallen tree on a roadway in the Francis Marion National Forest, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.

The crash happened about 4:54 p.m. Wednesday on Tiger Corner Road in Jamestown. Authorities said the pickup truck collided with a tree that had fallen across the roadway.

The driver and sole occupant, 41-year-old Christopher Britt of Jamestown, was pronounced dead at the scene. Coroner Darnell Hartwell said Britt died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol are investigating the collision.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, Berkeley County EMS, North Berkeley Fire Department and the South Carolina Forestry Commission assisted at the scene.
