Driver Killed After Car Erupts in Flames in Fiery Griffith Park Crash

A driver was killed early Thursday after a vehicle crashed in Griffith Park and burst into flames, authorities said.

The deadly single-car crash was reported around 2:24 a.m. on Forest Lawn Drive, just south of the 134 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The vehicle was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Crews quickly brought the blaze under control, but the fire also spread to a nearby tree and damaged a traffic signal.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

LAPD officers, including a helicopter crew, searched the surrounding area to determine whether anyone had been thrown from the vehicle during the violent crash. No additional victims were found.

Video from the scene showed firefighters battling the intense flames as officers established a perimeter around the wreckage.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear.

Authorities have not released the identity of the driver, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
