Nigel Farage Calls for an End to Working From Home

Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform UK party, has renewed his call for an end to what he describes as “the working from home culture” in Britain, arguing that remote work does not boost productivity and advocating a return to office-based work.

Speaking at a rally in Birmingham attended by around 2,000 supporters, Farage said employees are “more productive being with other fellow human beings and working as part of a team”, and he dismissed the idea that working from home improves output as “a load of nonsense.” He called for a shift in national attitudes toward work that prioritises office-based teamwork over remote arrangements.

Farage has previously linked this stance to plans for Reform-controlled councils, saying staff would be expected to work from the office or face dismissal if remote work were to continue.

Official figures show that remote and hybrid working remain common in the UK: as of early 2025, around 28 % of workers were in hybrid roles and 13 % were fully remote, having nearly doubled since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
