A Routine Procedure, A Life Changed Forever ⚖️💔

In September 2018, Vanessa Dib, a single mother from Mexico, went to the Mexican Social Security Institute to have her IUD removed — a routine procedure she expected would be simple. 🏥
Soon after, she developed a severe infection that was not treated in time. The infection progressed to gangrene in both legs. After multiple surgeries and nine days in a coma, Vanessa underwent a double amputation.
In June 2022, Mexico’s National Human Rights Commission recognized medical negligence in her case. However, the hospital reportedly offered 88,000 pesos (about $5,000 USD) in compensation — an amount many consider insufficient given the lifelong consequences. ⚖️
Today, Vanessa continues to face the physical, financial, and emotional impact of what began as a routine visit.
