A mother and her three children who died in a house fire in Bootle, Merseyside, have been named by police as the family pays an emotional tribute

Police have named a mother and her three children who tragically perished in a house fire, as their heartbroken family paid a moving tribute to them. Elisha Brabin, 36, and her children Leo Brabin, 16, Ellis Brabin, eight, and Prudence Brabin, seven, lost their lives in the devastating blaze.

Six fire engines were dispatched to the family’s home on Stone Square, Bootle, Merseyside, at approximately 3.45am on Tuesday, September 22. Eight firefighters searched the upper floor of the property, where they found four people in an upstairs bedroom with no signs of life, according to Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

A fifth person, who had already made it outside before crews arrived, was rushed to hospital. Merseyside Police and the fire service have since launched a joint investigation into the incident.

On Wednesday evening, the family of Elisha, Leo, Ellis and Prudence released a heartfelt tribute. They said: “Our whole family is devastated by the loss of Elisha, Leo, Ellis and Prudence.

“Elisha was our beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, aunty, niece and cousin. She was a devoted and loving mother who lived for her children. They were her whole world, and she meant everything to us.

“Our beautiful babies, Leo, Ellis and Prudence, were loved beyond measure and brought so much joy, happiness and love to our family. They filled our lives with laughter and precious memories that we will cherish forever.

“The tragic loss of Elisha and our three precious children has left us heartbroken. They have all been taken from us far too soon. The loss we are experiencing is unimaginable, and the impact on our family will be felt forever.

“As we try to come to terms with this devastating tragedy, we kindly ask that our family’s privacy is respected whilst we grieve and support one another through this incredibly difficult time. We would like to thank everyone for their kindness, support and understanding.”

Tearful neighbours recounted yesterday how they desperately smashed windows in a frantic attempt to rescue the family. One described being driven back by the ferocity of the flames, while another revealed he arrived “just too late” as the blaze spiralled out of control.

One neighbour spoke of being haunted after hearing a woman’s screams at around 3.30am, saying: “I heard a commotion and went outside. I heard screaming, the lady was shouting.”

Another neighbour paid tribute: “They were a lovely family. It’s so sad. They lived for each other. They were besotted with each other. Everyone on the estate went to their wedding. He tried, and the neighbours tried, to get them out. He tried his best to get his family but couldn’t get past the landing.”
