A 24-year-old Chinese social media creator known for challenging superstition and confronting supposedly haunted places has died after a devastating traffic accident, prompting a wave of online discussion over the irony surrounding her controversial content.

The creator, known online as Khương Tiểu Nhu (姜小柔) and reportedly identified by some sources as Li Xiuting (李秀婷), built a large following on Chinese social media through videos centered on paranormal legends, abandoned locations and traditional superstitions.

Rather than promoting supernatural beliefs, however, her stated purpose was reportedly to debunk them.

She became known for visiting places rumored to be haunted, often at night, investigating urban legends and deliberately testing claims that certain actions could bring supernatural punishment.

One of the most controversial videos attributed to her showed her smashing a statue of Guanyin, the Buddhist bodhisattva of compassion, in an attempt to challenge the belief that people would be punished for disrespecting a deity.

Her content reportedly included other provocative experiments involving folk taboos, allegedly haunted locations and so-called supernatural phenomena.

According to online reports, Khương Tiểu Nhu was involved in a serious traffic accident during the early hours of July 15while traveling toward Guangzhou.

She was reportedly rushed to hospital with severe multiple injuries and spent an extended period receiving intensive medical treatment. Reports circulating online said she suffered serious brain trauma, multiple organ injuries and complications related to the accident.

Her condition was described as critical, with her treatment reportedly requiring life-support equipment.

After weeks of treatment, her family reportedly confirmed that she had died.

The news quickly spread across Chinese social media, where some users revisited her old videos and began debating the apparent contradiction between her online persona and the circumstances of her death.

Some commenters claimed that her death was evidence of “karma” or supernatural punishment, particularly because of her previous videos challenging religious and folk taboos.

Old clips were reportedly resurfaced, including content in which she mocked supernatural beliefs, explored allegedly haunted locations and deliberately performed actions considered taboo by traditional beliefs.

Her reported comments and behavior in some of those videos became the focus of renewed online attention after news of her death emerged.

But the online reaction has also highlighted an important distinction: there is no evidence that her accident or death was caused by anything supernatural.
