Fans are getting a first look at the Kansas City Chiefs’ new domed stadium in Kansas City, Kansas.

On Wednesday morning, ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter released the first renderings of the stadium, which is set to open in 2031 across the state line.

The renderings show that the Chiefs have decided to partner with MANICA — one of two local architecture firms that were in the running to design the stadium. HNTB will also be working on the project.

Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt issued a statement regarding the new stadium, calling it their “new home.”

“From the beginning, our goal has been to build something that improved the gameday experience for every single fan. This new stadium will do just that. It’s spectacular. It honors the rich legacy of this franchise while setting a bold course for the future of Chiefs Kingdom,” Hunt said.

“While we’re still finalizing many of the details, there are a few things we know for sure: it will hold 70,000 fans, it will still be the best place in the world to tailgate, and the whole building will be built for noise.”

The $4.5 billion capital investment project will include four project elements: a $3 billion stadium in Wyandotte County, a $300 million practice facility and headquarters in Olathe, Kan., and two private real estate development areas totaling $1.2 billion.

According to the team, the “state-of-the-art stadium” will feature a fully enclosed roof with translucent ETFE panels and more than 20,000 parking spots.

The stadium’s size, shape and roof geometry were designed to maximize crowd noise, the team said, allowing Chiefs Kingdom to maintain its reputation as the loudest stadium in the world.

Additionally, the seating bowl will emulate Arrowhead’s design, with a Drum Deck for pregame and in-game ceremonies, a Chiefs Ring of Honor above the bowl, and, despite being domed, viewing capabilities of the iconic military flyovers.

The state and the team expect the project to have a total impact of $8.2 billion across the greater Kansas City region during the construction period.

However, once the stadium and practice facility open in 2031, it is projected that operational spending between the team and stadium, in addition to visitor spending, will generate a $1.5 billion direct, indirect and induced impact for the metro.

MANICA, the KCK-based boutique architecture firm leading the development, is no stranger to designing NFL stadiums and sports venues.

The firm has designed Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nissan Stadium in Nashville, the new stadium of the Chicago Bears, and numerous other stadiums and world-famous arenas across the globe.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ proposed domed stadium could give the metro several high-profile entertainment opportunities, including hosting the Super Bowl and the NCAA Final Four Championships.
