Missing for 30 Hours and With Their Family Fearing the Worst, Lost Cat Reappears Under Couple’s Newly Installed Bathtub

A Massachusetts couple was reunited with their missing cat after the pet evaded them for over 30 hours—and turned up in a most surprising location.

According to NBC 10 News Boston, Melissa and Ed Kirby had contractors working on their bathroom in their Needham, Mass., home in late June. Soon after the remodel work was completed, the couple noticed that their cat, Fluffy, was missing. After checking all of his usual hiding spots, they assumed the white cat had slipped out the front door. When Fluffy still hadn’t reappeared after 24 hours, Melissa and her husband started making and posting lost cat flyers around their neighborhood.
“I never thought I was going to see him again,” Melissa told the outlet.

Desperate to find Fluffy, Melissa enlisted the help of a pet retrieval specialist to search the neighborhood and surrounding areas. But the adventurous cat ended up being much closer to home than his owners realized.
“I was upstairs crying, and I heard a little meow,” said Melissa. “I thought at that point I was hallucinating.”

Melissa heard the cat calling out from beneath the newly installed bathtub and noticed a “little paw sticking out of a hole” where the tub had been fitted. In a video shared by the owner, Fluffy can be seen under the new tub, visible through a neatly cut rectangular opening with a pipe running through it.

Ed immediately called an emergency after-hours plumber and told the operator, “Yes, this is an emergency. It’s not a leak. Our cat is trapped under our tub.”
Fluffy ended up not needing assistance. Once he was located, the cat pulled himself out of the hole using his two front paws.

According to the report, Fluffy was unharmed and sustained no injuries during his adventure beneath the house. To prevent a similar situation in the future, the couple bought an AirTag to keep on the animal.
“If he ever gets out again or gets trapped under another appliance, we’ll be able to locate him,” Melissa noted.
