Uncle of 16 Children Rescued From Ohio ‘House of Horrors’ Faces New Abuse Charges

HAMDEN, Ohio — The disturbing investigation surrounding an Ohio family whose 16 children were removed from a severely neglected home has expanded, with the children’s uncle now facing multiple charges related to alleged sexual abuse.

Authorities say Brandon Henderson Sr., 40, who is related to the Siders family, was indicted on 21 charges connected to child endangerment. Another man, Josh Saunders, 23, was also indicted on allegations involving sexual offenses against minors. The victims’ identities have not been released.

Investigation Uncovers More Allegations

The latest charges stem from a broader investigation that began months before authorities discovered the 16 children living in appalling conditions.

Investigators had initially been looking into allegations of child sexual abuse. As the investigation developed, authorities uncovered evidence that led them to the Siders residence in Hamden, Ohio.

When deputies searched the home in June, they found 16 children living in severely unsanitary conditions. Authorities said the children had been confined largely to a small room and were living amid extreme neglect.

The children, ranging in age from toddlers to teenagers, were removed from the home and placed under the care of authorities.

Parents Also Face Serious Charges

The children’s parents, Gary and Elizabeth Siders, are already facing criminal charges stemming from the conditions in which the children were found.

Prosecutors have also accused the couple of sexual misconduct involving a minor in a separate investigation. The alleged offenses reportedly occurred between January and September 2022.

Gary Siders’ parents, Gary Siders Sr. and Christina Siders, have also faced child-endangerment charges connected to the conditions inside the residence.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Children Remain at the Center of the Case

The discovery of the 16 children shocked the local community and prompted significant scrutiny of how their circumstances remained hidden for so long.

Officials have described the situation as involving prolonged and extreme neglect and abuse within the extended family.

The children were taken for medical evaluations after being removed from the home, with some requiring additional treatment and care. Ohio has also provided emergency funding to help Vinton County handle the children’s ongoing needs.
