An Unlikely Friendship at the Denver Zoo

At the Denver Zoo in Colorado 🏞️🐾, staff recently noticed something touching happening inside one of the animal habitats.
A capybara 🦫 and a howler monkey 🐒 had quietly formed an unusual friendship.
The two animals are the only females in their shared enclosure, and over time they began spending more and more time together. Keepers often see them resting close to each other, calmly observing their surroundings, and moving around the habitat side by side 🌿🤍.
What may seem surprising at first actually reflects something deeper about animal behavior.

Capybaras are known to be extremely social animals 🦫🐾, often forming strong bonds with other animals, while howler monkeys rely heavily on group relationships and companionship 🐒🌳.
When animals share a space and similar social needs, connections can naturally form — even across completely different species.

For the zoo staff, watching this friendship grow has been a gentle reminder that companionship can appear in the most unexpected ways 🌍✨.
Two animals from different worlds, finding comfort simply by not being alone 🐒🦫🤍.
