Pacific Rim 3

Rating: 4.5/5 Jaeger Bomb
Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim was a love letter to giant monsters and even bigger robots. Pacific Rim: Earth’s Last Stand takes the franchise to new heights with a cast so stacked it could punch a Kaiju into orbit.
The film jumps forward a generation. The breach is sealed, but the Kaiju left behind something worse: eggs. Deep in the ocean, dormant for decades, they’re beginning to hatch. The Pan-Pacific Defense Corps, now a shadow of its former self, must assemble a new generation of Jaeger pilots to face a threat unlike any before: Kaiju that have evolved, adapted, and learned.

Tom Cruise brings his signature intensity to the role of a veteran pilot brought out of retirement. Dwayne Johnson is the new Marshal, commanding with charisma and muscle. Scarlett Johansson plays a brilliant scientist who discovers the Kaiju’s new weakness. The trio has surprising chemistry, and the action is spectacular—Jaegers fighting Kaiju in the ruins of Tokyo, underwater, and finally, in the breach itself.
The Verdict: A massive, glorious, emotional sequel that honors the original while expanding the world. Del Toro’s spirit lives on.
Final Thought: Today, we cancel the apocalypse. Again.
