The Story: New Experiments, New Problems
The official synopsis from Disney reads:
*”Life in Kauai has finally settled down for Lilo and Stitch. The ‘ohana has grown stronger, and the red one (Experiment 626) has learned what it means to be a good little monster. But when a forgotten experiment — 627 — awakens from a deep-sea slumber, Stitch discovers he wasn’t Jumba’s only ‘masterpiece.’ Bigger, meaner, and smarter than Stitch, 627 has one goal: prove he is the ultimate experiment by destroying everything his ‘failed’ brother has built. Now Lilo must unite an unlikely team — new experiments, old friends, and even a few reformed villains — to save her ‘ohana.”*
The film introduces a new primary antagonist in Experiment 627 (voiced by Jason Segel), a darker mirror to Stitch. Where Stitch learned love and loyalty, 627 embraces chaos and destruction. The dynamic between brothers — one redeemed, one refusing redemption — promises emotional depth amidst the chaos.
The Tone

Director Dean Fleischer Camp has promised that the sequel “won’t forget the heart” of the original. In a 2026 interview, he stated:
“The first film was about found family. This one is about what happens when that family is tested — not by external forces, but by the past coming back to haunt you. Stitch has to confront the fact that he wasn’t Jumba’s only experiment, and some of his ‘siblings’ aren’t interested in being good. It’s a film about choice, about redemption, and about whether anyone is truly beyond saving.”
The sequel aims to balance the same mix of humor, heart, and Hawaiian cultural authenticity that made the 2025 remake a success . Lilo remains the emotional anchor, now slightly older, navigating early adolescence while still being the “little girl who adopted a monster.”
What About Cobra Bubbles?
One notable absence from the confirmed cast is Cobra Bubbles, the no-nonsense social worker turned CIA agent. In the 2025 remake, he was portrayed by Courtney B. Vance. Sources indicate that Vance may appear in a cameo role, but his character is not central to the sequel’s plot .
The Visual Approach
Like the 2025 remake, the sequel will blend live-action environments with a fully CG Stitch and other experiments . The Hawaiian locations — lush jungles, volcanic landscapes, and turquoise waters — will once again serve as a stunning backdrop. The new experiments, including 627 and 624, are designed to feel distinct from Stitch while remaining recognizably part of Jumba’s chaotic “family.”
The Challenge of a Sequel
The original Lilo & Stitch (2002) and its 2025 remake told a complete story. Lilo learned to embrace her unconventional family. Stitch learned the meaning of ‘ohana. The sequel faces the challenge of continuing that story without undoing its emotional resolution.
By introducing a “dark brother” antagonist who actively rejects redemption, the film cleverly externalizes Stitch’s internal conflict. Stitch isn’t struggling to be good anymore — he’s fighting to protect the goodness he’s found. The question becomes: can he save someone who doesn’t want to be saved?
The Verdict (So Far)
Lilo & Stitch: Experiment 627 faces the same challenge as all beloved Disney sequels: honoring what came before while offering something new. The return of Dean Fleischer Camp, Chris Sanders as Stitch, and the core cast is promising. Jason Segel as the voice of 627 is inspired casting — he can be menacing and heartbreaking in equal measure.
Will it recapture the magic of the original? Or will it fall into the “direct-to-video sequel” trap despite its theatrical release? We’ll find out in 2027.
Final Thought: ‘Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind. But what if family tries to leave you behind?
Where to Watch: In theaters, Summer 2027.
