Colin Gray was convicted of murder in connection with the deadly shooting committed by his son Colt in 2024

The father of the teen who killed four people at a Georgia high school in 2024 has learned his fate for giving his son the rifle used in the shooting.

Colin Gray was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Thursday, July 30, in connection with his March conviction on murder and involuntary manslaughter, The New York Times reported.

Prosecutors previously said that Gray had given his son Colt an AR-15 “despite warning signs about his deteriorating mental health,” according to CNN.

Colt was 14 when he killed two students and two teachers at Apalachee High School in Winder, Ga., on Sept. 4, 2024.

Last week, he pleaded guilty to 55 charges, including murder, CNN, NBC News and FOX 5 reported.

On Tuesday, July 28, Colt was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, per the Times.

Students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo and teachers Richard Aspinwall and Cristina Irimie were identified as the victims of the shooting, which also left several others wounded.

“Those things are never completely going to disappear,” said Nautica Walton, who was shot in the leg during the attack, per CNN. “You took away the innocence of so many kids in that classroom that day, just because of what you were going through.”

The Times reported that during his trial, Colin testified that he was not able to handle his son’s behavioral issues.

“There’s this whole other side of Colt I didn’t know existed,” he said, per the outlet.

According to CNN, Judge Nicholas Primm, who sentenced Colin, said that the defendant’s crimes are “tethered to the crimes committed by his son.”
