Earth, Wind & Fire canceled its scheduled concert in San Francisco Thursday night after drummer John Paris was reportedly hospitalized following a medical emergency.

According to reports, Paris was taken to a local hospital from the Chase Center shortly before the band was scheduled to perform. TMZ reported that he was being treated for what was described as a “cardiac incident” and that he was in critical condition.

The emergency occurred just hours before the group was due to take the stage alongside Lionel Richie.

Earth, Wind & Fire announced the cancellation shortly before the scheduled 7:30 p.m. start time, citing a medical emergency involving a member of the band.

“We are unable to perform as scheduled tonight at Chase Center in San Francisco due to a medical emergency involving a member of our band,” the group said in a statement.

The band said the concert would be rescheduled, with tickets expected to remain valid for the new date. Refunds would also be available to ticket holders.

The Chase Center subsequently confirmed that the show had been postponed because of the medical emergency.

Details about Paris’ condition remained limited. Medical privacy laws prevent the hospital from publicly releasing information about a patient without authorization.

The sudden cancellation came as a shock to fans who had gathered for the highly anticipated performance.

Earth, Wind & Fire is currently touring with a lineup that includes Verdine White, Philip Bailey, Myron McKinley, Oshun Shango Oshunde, Morris O’Connor, Serg Dimitrijevic, B. David Whitworth, Ralph Johnson and John Paris.

The tour is expected to continue with a scheduled performance in Palm Desert on Saturday, followed by stops in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Austin, although any changes could depend on the circumstances surrounding Thursday’s medical emergency.

For now, fans are awaiting further information about Paris as the band and his loved ones navigate the situation.

The priority remains his health and recovery, while the canceled San Francisco performance is expected to be rescheduled at a later date.
