Ohio Mother and Two Partners Face Charges After Death of 7-Year-Old Son
CINCINNATI, Ohio – An Ohio mother and two people who lived with her are facing murder and child-endangerment charges following the death of her 7-year-old son, William Evans.
Authorities say the child, who had developmental disabilities, was found dead inside the family’s Cincinnati home earlier this month. Investigators are examining allegations of prolonged abuse and are continuing to determine the circumstances that led to his death.

Three People Charged
The suspects were identified as Kaitlin Evans, 38; Nessa Keaney, 23; and Kirby Rankin, 33.
All three have been charged with murder and child endangerment. Each is being held on bond exceeding $1 million, according to authorities.
The charges are allegations, and none of the defendants has been convicted.

Investigation Raises Serious Concerns
Police became involved after concerns about William’s welfare led investigators to the home.
Authorities say evidence recovered during the investigation indicates the child may have experienced significant mistreatment before his death. Investigators are continuing to examine the evidence and determine the individual roles of the three defendants.
Evans’ attorney has indicated that the mother may have failed to protect her son rather than directly causing the injuries that resulted in his death. The defense position will be addressed through the legal proceedings.

Case Remains Under Investigation
Detectives are reviewing witness statements, medical evidence and other information as they build the case.
The circumstances surrounding William’s death have drawn significant attention, but prosecutors will still have to prove the allegations in court.
A court appearance is scheduled for the defendants later this month as the case moves forward.
William’s death has left relatives and members of the community mourning a child whose family says deserved care and protection.
The defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
