Teen Accused of Killing Mother and Brother After Allegedly Creating Murder Fantasies With AI

A 17-year-old Massachusetts teenager is accused of killing his mother and younger brother after prosecutors said he had previously used an AI chatbot to create fictional stories about murdering members of his own family.
Arjun Aravind, a student at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, was arrested after his mother, Sudha Venkatesan, 45, and his 14-year-old brother, Siddharth Aravind, were found dead inside their home in Acton on Tuesday night.

Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said Aravind had recently displayed behavior that raised concerns. According to prosecutors, he had allegedly used ChatGPT to generate what investigators described as theoretical or fictional scenarios involving the killing of his family.
The stories were reportedly described as having the tone of a gothic novel.
Police discover two bodies
Authorities were called to the family’s home at around 6:30 p.m. after Aravind’s father contacted police.
The father reportedly said a tutor had been unable to enter the house and that he had last spoken with his wife earlier that morning before leaving for work.
When officers conducted a welfare check, they discovered Siddharth on the first floor and his mother in the basement.
Investigators have not publicly disclosed how either victim died or what weapon, if any, was involved.
Teen allegedly fled after the killings
Following the discovery, police issued an alert for Aravind, who authorities believed had left the residence in his mother’s 2014 Honda Accord.
The vehicle was located early Wednesday in nearby Wayland after police responded to an unrelated call.
Aravind was found inside the car and taken into custody without incident.
“This is an unspeakable tragedy,” Ryan said as investigators continued working to determine exactly what happened inside the home.

Facing multiple charges
Aravind has been charged with two counts of murder, along with assault and battery charges involving household or family members, unauthorized use of a vehicle and motor vehicle theft.
He was initially arraigned on the vehicle-related charges, while the murder proceedings were expected to follow in court.
The medical examiner will determine the official causes of death.
The case has drawn particular attention because of the prosecutors’ allegation that Aravind had previously used AI to generate fictional material involving violence against his own family.
However, those allegations remain part of the ongoing investigation, and the teenager is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
As investigators continue examining the family’s history and the events leading up to the deaths, authorities are still working to establish what happened inside the Acton home and what may have preceded the tragedy.
