Tourist bus crash kills 12 passengers & seriously injures 10 after vehicle veered off motorway & overturned in Hungary

AT least 12 people have been killed and 10 others have been injured after a horrifying tourist bus crash in Hungary.
The vehicle, reportedly carrying 57 passengers, careered off a road, hurtled into a ditch and overturned in the early hours of this morning.

The horror unfolded in the early hours of Sunday

A tourist bus crashed in Hungary and left at least 12 people dead
The bus was travelling on the M3 motorway, near the town of Mezokeresztes, around 90 miles east of the capital Budapest.
Police claimed the driver likely fell asleep moments before the bus swerved off the road.
All of the 57 tourists on board were Polish nationals.
Shocking images showed the tourist bus wrecked and deep in a ditch following the deadly crash.

Suitcases and belongings were seen scattered across the road after being flung from the bus during the terrifying ordeal.
Emergency workers were also seen surrounding the bus following the tragedy working with large portable cranes to recover the wreckage.
The wounded victims have been rushed to hospital, local cops said.
The man behind the wheel at the time of the crash has since been arrested, police confirmed.

Polish foreign minister Radosław Sikorski said on X that a “tragic bus accident involving Polish tourists” had taken place and that his team were working with Hungarian authorities.
The bus was travelling to Poland‘s southeastern Podkarpackie region, but was passing through Hungary from a pilgrimage in Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Polish President Karol Nawrocki posted: “It is with deep sorrow that I received the tragic news of the Polish bus accident in Hungary, in which so many of our compatriots died.
“I join the families and loved ones of the victims in prayer and deep sympathy.”
Hungary’s prime minister Peter Magyar offered his condolences to the families of the victims and thanked rescue workers for their efforts.
Local police said: “A Polish-registered bus travelling on the M3 motorway towards Nyiregyhaza… veered off the straight stretch of road into a ditch and overturned.
“Preliminary information suggests the driver likely fell asleep.”
