Ohio Couple Arrested After Allegedly Storming Cruise Cabin and Attacking Family, Including 9-Year-Old

PORT CANAVERAL, Florida — A cruise vacation took a frightening turn after an Ohio couple allegedly forced their way into another family’s cabin and attacked three passengers, including a 9-year-old child.

Gannon Jacox, 29, and his girlfriend, Brooklyn Hicks, 28, were arrested after the cruise ship returned to Port Canaveral on August 15. Authorities said alcohol and a dispute over noise helped trigger the confrontation.

Argument Escalates Into Cabin Attack

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Jacox and Hicks had been arguing loudly after drinking when one of the passengers asked them to quiet down.

Instead of backing away, Hicks allegedly confronted the passenger. Jacox reportedly followed while recording the encounter on his cellphone.

The situation quickly escalated.

Authorities allege the couple pushed their way into the family’s cabin, where two adults and a 9-year-old child were present.

A physical confrontation followed, with investigators alleging that Jacox struck all three people. Hicks was also accused of throwing punches during the fight.

Child Among Those Attacked

The presence of the 9-year-old made the incident particularly disturbing for investigators.

Despite the violence inside the cabin, authorities said none of the three victims suffered serious injuries.

Jacox himself sustained an injury around his eye during the confrontation.

The sheriff’s office said the exact circumstances of that injury remain unclear, with the wound potentially having been caused by one of the victims or during the chaotic fight.

Couple Faces Multiple Charges

Jacox was charged with burglary with battery and child abuse without great bodily harm.

Hicks faces charges of burglary with battery and battery-touch or strike.

Both suspects were booked into the Brevard County Jail following the cruise’s return to Florida.

Jacox’s bond was set at $31,000, while Hicks’ bond was set at $6,000. Both have since been released, according to booking records.

The specific cruise ship involved has not been publicly identified.

Sheriff Blames Alcohol and Poor Judgment

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey used the incident as a warning to cruise passengers about excessive drinking and unruly behavior.

He said the confrontation appeared to be the result of alcohol combined with poor judgment and stressed that passengers should not allow arguments to escalate into violence.

The incident also serves as a reminder that cruise ships, despite being vacation environments, remain subject to criminal laws and law enforcement intervention when serious incidents occur.

For the family involved, what began as a simple request for quieter neighbors allegedly turned into a frightening confrontation inside their own cabin.

Authorities are continuing to handle the criminal case against Jacox and Hicks, while the victims recover from an incident that could have ended far more seriously.
