A frightening highway accident in Philadelphia was caught on dashcam after a loose tire flew across Interstate 76 and slammed into an oncoming SUV, causing severe damage to the vehicle’s front end.

The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday as a dark gray Nissan SUV was traveling westbound on the Schuylkill Expressway.

Dashcam footage shows the SUV moving steadily in the left lane when, without warning, a runaway tire suddenly bounces over the highway median and heads directly toward the vehicle.

Seconds later, the tire crashes onto the hood before smashing through the windshield with tremendous force. The impact severely crumpled the front of the SUV and left the windshield shattered.

Another video captured the moments leading up to the collision, showing the tire bouncing at high speed across the median before striking the Nissan.

The source of the loose tire has not yet been identified, and authorities have not said what vehicle it may have come from.

It also remains unclear whether anyone inside the SUV was injured during the incident.

The dramatic footage has drawn attention online, highlighting the unpredictable dangers drivers can face on busy highways and the importance of staying alert while on the road.

Authorities have not released additional details as the investigation into the incident continues.
