Rupert Grint Returns as Ron Weasley for ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ on Broadway

NEW YORK — Fifteen years after saying goodbye to Ron Weasley on the big screen, Rupert Grint is officially returning to the Wizarding World—this time on Broadway.

The actor will reprise his iconic role in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for a 17-week limited engagement at New York City’s Lyric Theatre, beginning February 2, 2027, and running through May 30, 2027. The announcement marks the first time Grint has played Ron since the final Harry Potter film was released in 2011.

A Full-Circle Moment

Grint, who portrayed Ron across all eight Harry Potter movies, said returning to the character feels deeply personal.

Now a father himself, the 38-year-old actor noted that stepping into the shoes of an adult Ron—who is also raising a family in The Cursed Child—gives the role an entirely new meaning.

He described the opportunity as a “full-circle” moment and said he is excited to reconnect with a character who shaped much of his life and career.

The Second Original Film Star to Join the Play

Grint becomes the second member of the original Harry Potter film cast to appear in the Broadway production.

Earlier this year, Tom Felton returned as an adult Draco Malfoy, drawing huge crowds and helping boost ticket sales. However, fans hoping to see Ron and Draco reunite on stage will be disappointed: Felton’s run ends in January 2027, just weeks before Grint makes his debut.

As a result, the two former co-stars will not perform together during the Broadway engagement.

The Story Continues 19 Years Later

Unlike the original novels and films, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts.

Harry, Ron and Hermione are now adults navigating parenthood while their children begin their own journeys at Hogwarts. Ron is married to Hermione, helps run Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, and finds himself drawn into a new adventure when time travel threatens to rewrite the past.

The stage production has become one of Broadway’s greatest success stories, selling millions of tickets worldwide since its London premiere in 2016.
