Wild moment drunk California mom takes kids on nightmare highway chase before smashing into guardrail

A California mom allegedly turned a hit-and-run into a full-blown highway nightmare, tearing down the road with two kids onboard before plowing into a guardrail, police said.

Brooke Smith, 41, was initially sought after a crash near Shields and Fowler avenues in Fresno at about 6:07 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, according to the Fresno Police Department.

Cops later spotted her vehicle barreling west on Highway 180 and things got even more intense.

A Fresno police helicopter tracked the vehicle from overhead and reported seeing it speeding, driving along the shoulder, tailgating and sideswiping another vehicle.

The chaotic drive finally ended when Smith crashed into a guardrail near the Blackstone and Abby Avenue exit, police said.

One juvenile passenger then scrambled out of the vehicle and ran to an officer for help.

The child had visible head injuries, while a second juvenile complained of pain from the crash, according to police.

It is unknown what relationship Smith had to the children in the vehicle.

She allegedly showed signs of impairment after the wreck.

Cops said Smith was stinking of booze, slurring her words and could barely stand up straight.

She was arrested on suspicion of DUI involving drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, hit-and-run and felony child endangerment and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
