Two people were killed after a small plane crashed in the Fresno area on Saturday.

The crash occurred near the Sierra Sky Park Airport in northwest Fresno just before 2 p.m., according to local reports.

Two others were taken to the hospital in critical condition. There were four people on the aircraft at the time, YourCentral Valley reported.

It’s unclear what caused the crash.

Firefighters and other emergency personnel rushed to the scene, with crews seen battling flames on a hillside.

The plane went down on an embankment near the San Joaquin River.

Officials from the Fresno Police, Fresno Fire Department, PG&E, Fresno County Sheriff’s Office and North Central Fire Department responded to the scene, according to ABC30.

Nearby residents lost power during the time of the crash but it has since been restored, according to PG&E’s outage map.
