The Mummy 5

Rating: 4/5 Sands of Time
After the disastrous 2017 Tom Cruise attempt, The Mummy franchise returns to what made it great: adventure, horror, and Dwayne Johnson. The Mummy 5: Resurrection serves as both a sequel to The Mummy Returns (yes, we’re ignoring Cruise) and a soft reboot.
The film introduces a new threat: Ahmanet (a chilling performance), an ancient Egyptian princess who was betrayed and mummified alive. She’s resurrected in modern times by a reckless archaeologist (a charismatic newcomer) and seeks to claim the world using the power of Set. Standing in her way? Mathayus, the Scorpion King (Johnson), who has been cursed to wander the desert for millennia, and a mysterious immortal (Keanu Reeves) who has his own history with Ahmanet.

Johnson brings his usual charm, but the real highlight is Keanu. He plays a weary, world-weary immortal who has seen empires rise and fall. The chemistry between him and Johnson is unexpectedly great—two immortals who are tired of living but not ready to die. The action is massive, with armies of the undead clashing in the desert, and the horror elements (bugs, curses, creepy rituals) are genuinely effective.
The Verdict: A fun, action-packed resurrection for a franchise that deserved better. Welcome back, Mummy. We missed you.
Final Thought: Some curses are meant to be broken. Some are meant to be shared.
