God of War 2026

Rating: 5/5 Mythic Mayhem
The God of War video games are beloved for their brutal combat, epic scale, and emotional storytelling. God of War 2026 brings Kratos to the big screen, and with Dwayne Johnson in the role, it’s a match made in Valhalla.
The film adapts the 2018 game, following Kratos (Johnson) years after the destruction of Olympus. He lives in the realm of Midgard with his young son, Atreus, trying to control his rage and forget his past. But when his dying wife Faye (Gal Gadot, in a poignant cameo) asks him to spread her ashes at the highest peak of the nine realms, Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey that will test their bond and force Kratos to confront the monster he used to be.

Johnson delivers a career-best performance. He captures Kratos’s physicality, but more importantly, his vulnerability—a man trying to be a father while haunted by the ghosts of his past. Gadot brings warmth and depth to her limited role. The action is breathtaking, with the Leviathan Axe becoming an extension of Kratos’s soul. The fight with the Stranger (a terrifying performance) is worth the price of admission alone.
The Verdict: The greatest video game adaptation ever made. Johnson is Kratos. Kratos is Johnson. A masterpiece of myth and emotion.
Final Thought: A god. A father. A monster. Kratos is all three. And he is enough.
