Top Gun 3

Rating: 4.5/5 Mach Speed

Tom Cruise returns as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for what is promised to be his final flight in Top Gun 3: Afterburn. And if this is the end, what a way to go.

The film picks up years after the events of Top Gun: Maverick. Maverick is now a retired admiral, teaching at the Naval Academy and trying to stay out of the cockpit. But when a new threat emerges—a rogue nation with advanced AI-piloted drones that can outfly anything in the sky—the Navy needs a pilot who understands the limits of man and machine. Maverick is called back to train a new generation, including a brilliant but troubled young pilot (a breakout performance) and a mysterious foreign liaison (Keanu Reeves) who has his own agenda.

Cruise brings the same intensity and charm he’s always brought. The flight sequences are breathtaking, with practical effects that put CGI to shame. Reeves is perfectly cast as a rival pilot who becomes an unlikely ally. Scarlett Johansson joins as a no-nonsense admiral who keeps Maverick grounded. The final dogfight—Maverick in an old F-14 against a swarm of AI drones—is pure cinema.

The Verdict: A stunning, emotional conclusion to the Top Gun saga. Cruise flies off into the sunset, and we’re honored to watch.

Final Thought: The need for speed never dies. Neither does Maverick.
