Ace Ventura 3

Rating: 3/5 Alrighty Then… Again
Jim Carrey returns as the world’s most unhinged pet detective in Ace Ventura 3: Perdido en el Tiempo, a sequel that trades the 90s Miami setting for a time-travel adventure that is equal parts ridiculous and nostalgic.
The film finds Ace (Carrey) investigating the disappearance of a rare talking macaw that holds the key to an ancient Mayan prophecy. When he accidentally activates a time-travel device hidden in the bird’s cage, Ace is transported to various historical eras—ancient Egypt, medieval Europe, the Wild West—where he must solve the mystery while avoiding paradoxes and, more importantly, annoying everyone he meets.

Carrey slips back into the role like a comfortable, ridiculous suit. The physical comedy is as wild as ever, though Carrey’s age shows in the stunt work. The time-travel conceit allows for creative gags (Ace in a toga, Ace in cowboy boots, Ace annoying Shakespeare). The humor is hit-or-miss—about 60% land, which is average for the franchise.
The Verdict: A silly, nostalgic return for a beloved character. It’s no Pet Detective, but it’s a fun trip through time.
