Terrifying moment 15-tonne slabs of concrete tumble off lorry and slam into parked cars on motorway in horror crash

THIS is the terrifying moment two 15-ton slabs of concrete crash onto a motorway and hurtle towards two pedestrians.

Shocking footage shows the blocks fly off the truck and collide with several parked cars in a terrifying crash on the North-South Motorway in southern Australia.

This is the moment two 15-ton slabs of concrete crash onto the motorway in Australia

The massive slabs collide into two parked cars on the side of the road

The truck was merging into a new lane at 10:30am on Friday when its heavy load started to come loose.

The 15-ton delivery crashed onto the road and struck three cars parked on the motorway’s shoulder.

Police said two bystanders hit by the slabs were “lucky to be alive”.

Cops said: “One of the pedestrians was taken to hospital by ambulance with a suspected broken arm. Two other people sustained minor injuries.

“Police are amazed that no one was killed during this incident.”

Father-of-two Vicas Mataru was helping a colleague who had broken down when he was caught in the horrifying smash.

Speaking from hospital with a broken arm, he told 7News that: “I remember a big sound – bang! – and a lot of dust.

“I called the guy and said ‘run!’ We were very, very lucky.”

Vicas added that it was a “miracle” that he survived.

He pointed out that a yellow car had taken most of the impact from the hurtling slabs – and knocked them off course.

The shaken driver of the truck approached him and apologised, said the survivor.

He claimed that a “yute” had cut in front of him and triggered his emergency brakes – which snapped the load.

The vehicle had been carrying concrete segments for a motorway construction project Torrens to Darlington (T2D).

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport said: “Out of an abundance of caution, transportation of concrete segments has been suspended until further notice.”

The car wrecks were towed away and a crane had to be deployed to lift the heavy concrete blocks.

Investigations into the crash are ongoing.

It comes after seven people including two children were injured when a car ploughed into a busy terrace bar in Spain.

A 47-year-old woman was seen driving a white Peugeot through the streets of Costa del Sol, Spain in the seconds before disaster.

Her car was then seen driving directly through bollards that were in place to separate the road from the footpath.

In just a few terrifying seconds the driver careened through a crowd of diners, also taking out the restaurant’s tables and umbrellas.

A spokesperson for the regional emergency response coordination centre said: “Investigators are looking into whether the driver may have suffered a medical problem while behind the wheel.”
