Dad is charged after Brit boy, 3, ‘fell from arms & out 4th-floor window while playing aeroplane’

A BRIT dad has been charged with negligence over the death of his three-year-old son who fell out of a fourth floor hotel window in Cyprus.

The boy reportedly slipped from his dad’s arms while they were playing “aeroplane”, and plunged 33ft to the veranda below.

Police were called to the scene of the tragedy on Sunday evening

A three-year-old child died after falling out the window of a hotel in Chloraka, Paphos

The 37-year-old dad was arrested after the horrific family-holiday tragedy in Chloraka, Paphos on Sunday.

An ambulance was called to the scene, but when paramedics arrived they found the child was not responding.

He was taken to Paphos General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

The family had only arrived at the hotel for their two-week holiday stay around 40 minutes before chaos struck.

The pair, along with the boy’s grandfather, had left their rooms and were heading towards the elevator to go to dinner.

While they were waiting for it to arrive, the dad was holding the child aloft.

There was a double window next to where they were standing, measuring roughly 4ft wide and 8ft tall.

The toddler somehow fell through the opening, suffering “severe cranial wounds and multiple wounds to his body and vital organs” in the ordeal.

Local cops received initial reports of the terrifying plunge at around 6.40pm that night.

The tragic boy’s family have another five-year-old girl, who is also with them on the holiday.

In the aftermath of the tragic incident, the distraught parent was taken into custody.

The dad, who has not been identified, appeared at Paphos District Court yesterday morning charged with causing death through negligence.

His family are in the process of finding a legal representative, he said as he appeared in court without a lawyer.

According to local media, he broke down in tears in the dock before proceedings had to be paused.

Authorities have taken five statements so far as part of an investigation into the incident.

The dad was remanded in custody for eight days – the maximum length the police can apply for.

If convicted, the parent could face up to four years in prison.

Police spokesman Vyron Vyronos said “the father may be released before the remand expires”, if the police probe is completed earlier.

Cops are scouring CCTV footage from the luxury hotel as inquiries continue.

The UK Foreign Office told us: “We are supporting the family of a British child who has died in Cyprus and are in contact with the local authorities.”
