Mother Was Found Stabbed, Her 2 Children Dead. Then Came a Candlelight Vigil — and Murder Charges Against Mom

Jessica Quarles, 32, was indicted on multiple counts including first-degree premeditated murder

A Tennessee woman, who was found stabbed in her home as both of her children lay dead with gunshot wounds, has been charged with killing them.

Jessica Quarles, 32, was indicted by an Obion County grand jury on two counts each of first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree felony murder, one count of aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment-vulnerable child, and one count of aggravated child abuse/neglect/endangerment-8 and under in connection with the deaths of one-year-old Landrie Harris and 11-year-old McKenna Young, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced on Monday, June 29.

Quarles’ children were found fatally shot on June 13 at their home on Jan Lynn Street in Kenton.

Quarles was also discovered in the home, suffering from stab wounds, WSMV and WPSD reported.

She was taken to the hospital where she was listed in critical condition, according to WPSD.

After the incident, a candlelight prayer vigil was held for Quarles and her two kids at the Parsons Regional Community Park in Parsons, WBBJ reported.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said agents were requested by the 27th Judicial District Attorney General’s office on June 13 to join the Kenton Police Department in investigating the deaths.

“During the course of the investigation, authorities identified Jessica Quarles, the children’s mother, as the individual responsible for their murders,” the bureau said in a press release.

She is being held without bond in the Obion County Jail, according to WSMV.
