Caught on camera: Deputy rushes to save 2-year-old trapped in hot car

A Washington state deputy responded just in time to save a 2-year-old boy from a hot car that reached 92 degrees after the child was found strapped into a car seat and unresponsive. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said witnesses called 911 in May after spotting the child alone in a parked car. While waiting for first responders, they tried to create shade around the vehicle. When Deputy Ben Hulsey arrived, he found the boy “sweating heavily, with his head tilted to the side,” according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities said the rear window was cracked only slightly.

Hulsey broke a window to rescue the child and moved him into an air-conditioned patrol car, where he was evaluated by medics.
Investigators determined the boy had been left alone for about 16 minutes. By the time deputies located his parents, they had been inside a nearby grocery store for nearly 30 minutes, authorities said.
Both parents are facing reckless endangerment charges, and Child Protective Services was notified.
“Never leave a child or pet alone in a vehicle. Not even for a few minutes,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “If you see a child or pet left alone in a vehicle and believe they’re in distress, don’t hesitate to call 911. That’s exactly what these community members did.”
