A YOUNG horse-loving girl who tragically died after her hair got trapped in a swimming pool drain on holiday has been pictured.

Alice Ferrari, 11, was on holiday with her mum in Sestri Levante, Italy when the tragedy unfolded.

Paramedics gave the young girl CPR for 45 minutes before rushing her to hospital

She was swimming in an indoor pool when her hair reportedly got stuck in the suction pump.

Despite the shallow water, Alice was quickly pulled under and trapped.

When she didn’t resurface, another child raised the alarm.

The pool’s co-manager, Daniele Muzio, frantically dived into the water and used a pair of scissors to cut her free.

She was on a family holiday in the beach town of Sestri Levante, Italy

Emergency services rushed to the scene with paramedics administering CPR.

After receiving treatment for around 45 minutes, Alice was airlifted to a hospital in Genoa, where she died on Friday.

Police are now investigating whether safety regulations were followed, including the rule requiring children under 12 to be accompanied by an adult.

Initial reports suggest there was no sign displaying key information to guests.

Muzio and his mother Anna Copello – who co-manages the pool – are now under investigation for Alice’s death.

Investigators are also considering if swimming caps should be mandatory to swim in shallow pools.

Alice, from Suisio, had been a keen horse rider since the age of six.

Regarded as a rising talent in the equestrian community, she trained at the Isola Equestrian Centre in Bergamo.

The Italian Equestrian Sports Federation described her as a “promising young rider with a bright future ahead of her”.

Alice is the fifth child to die in an Italian pool in just three months as experts warn of “death trap” drains.

Italian Minister for Civil Protection Nello Musumeci said: “Strict discipline is needed, but also greater caution is needed in never leaving children alone in the water.

“The Meloni government’s bill, aimed at this goal, will be approved by the relevant committee within the month, and we will do everything possible to schedule it urgently.”

In April, Gabriele Petrucci, seven, was celebrating his birthday when he was found unresponsive in the water.

The boy “fought like a lion” after getting trapped in a hotel swimming pool’s suction duct at a wellness retreat in Castelforte.

His dad dived in to save him but Gabriele sadly died.
