A Canadian woman who was accused of striking a teenager during a confrontation at a New Jersey boardwalk has been ordered deported after resolving the criminal case through a plea agreement.

According to court proceedings, 33-year-old Kaitlyn Tracey pleaded guilty to one count of simple assault in connection with an incident that occurred during the Fourth of July holiday weekend at Point Pleasant Beach.

As part of the agreement, prosecutors dismissed the remaining charges. The court sentenced Tracey to one day in jail, with credit for time she had already served following her arrest.

Earlier the same day, an immigration judge in Texas ordered that Tracey be removed from the United States and returned to Canada. Federal authorities have previously stated that she had remained in the country after her visa had expired.

The case attracted widespread attention after a video circulated online showing an altercation between Tracey and a group of teenagers on the boardwalk. Investigators alleged that the confrontation escalated and ended with one of the teens being struck.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Tracey’s attorney told the court that she had accepted responsibility for her actions and described the incident as an isolated event. The defense also argued that she had been employed while living in the United States and had otherwise been a productive member of the community.

The victim’s family submitted a statement to the court expressing appreciation that the incident had been captured on video, saying the recordings played an important role in documenting what happened. They also thanked law enforcement and prosecutors for handling the case.

The judge acknowledged the family’s statement before accepting the plea agreement and imposing the sentence.

With both the criminal case and immigration proceedings now resolved, Tracey is expected to be deported to Canada in accordance with the immigration court’s order.
