An elderly Florida man is accused of setting a car on fire with his girlfriend of 42 years inside, authorities said.
On Friday, July 3, Franklin Davis, 84, of Fort Lauderdale, was arrested and charged with premeditated attempted murder, criminal attempt solicitation and arson causing bodily harm, according to online court records.
According to Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, Davis and his girlfriend had recently ended their relationship when they began arguing in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven on Northwest 9th Ave. in Oakland Park, WPLG, CBS News and the Miami Herald report.
Davis was under the influence of alcohol when he poured a plastic bottle with gasoline inside across the dashboard and front seats of a car the woman was sitting in, BSO said in an arrest affidavit, the Miami Herald reports.

Using a lighter, he allegedly ignited the gas he poured, which made the inside of the car go up in flames, according to BSO. They were both in the car when the fire began.
She suffered third-degree burns to her left leg, while he suffered burns to his hands and face, according to BSO deputies.
The woman told deputies that she thought that Davis was going to “burn her up” in the car, according to the BSO, CBS News reports.
The former couple were rushed to a local hospital but were transferred to Jackson Memorial Hospital because of the seriousness of their burns, CBS News reports.
Davis is being held without bond at the Broward County Main Jail in Fort Lauderdale.
